COMSTOCK NONPROFITS OF STOREY COUNTY

We are proud members of our historic landmark community and co-founders of the Comstock Nonprofits of Storey County, a alliance of eight amazing nonprofits. St. Mary’s Art Center partners with these organizations and others to drive art, culture and community and maximize opportunities, resources, talents and knowledge.  Our alliance is based on the belief that we are better and stronger together, elevating each other to do our best for our community and visitors.

VIRGINIA CITY TOURISM COMMISSION

Board Member Jay Carmona and our Executive Director also serve on the 5-person Virginia City Tourism Commission as officers, working with staff to ensure the vibrancy, culture, arts, business community, and residents of Virginia City and Gold Hill are successful and the tourism experience is exceptional.

Virginia City is well known as one of a select few national historic landmark districts, and a pivotal contributor to our pioneering, mining, and engineering history.  Known also for its rustic boardwalks, amazing architecture, and a wholly unique culture, Virginia City is like no other.  This small but mighty town offers world-class arts, history, and special events.

TRAVEL NEVADA 3D GRANT PROJECT WITH CARSON CITY AND CARSON VALLEY

St. Mary's Art Center is proud to partner with Virginia City, Carson City, Carson Valley, and Travel Nevada to create a collaborative and unifying project connecting our three amazing corners of northern Nevada.

"The project is providing Carson City, Virginia City and Carson Valley with a customized 33-week planning process to create a 10-year destination plan for the Cultural Corridor project. Once the plan is complete, the collective group will have a chance to apply for some portion of $2 million in funding to bring the concept to life.

The Cultural Corridor concept centers on finding a way to unite the three destinations, all of which have high concentrations of historic sites, heritage events and arts offerings.  This project aims to connect visitors and locals with an approachable way to engage with our region’s rich arts and culture offerings and to seek out and nurture their interests in arts and culture.

The project is being guided by a local steering committee made up of various members of the region including artists, museum and gallery staff, city/county/state officials, artisans as well as tourism officials. The project jumpstarts Travel Nevada's brand-new focus on destination development to expand the state's tourism infrastructure and build rural economies by attracting more traveler spending." - Visit Carson City Media Release
